About the Author
Mark D. Marshall and Helen O. Leung are faculty members in the chemistry department at Amherst College with over 30 years of combined experience teaching physical chemistry to undergraduates. They maintain active research programs in high resolution molecular spectroscopy of weakly bound species and reactant complexes and have appeared as authors on 50 scientific papers. They are both recent recipients of the Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award and both received the John F. Burlew Award of the Connecticut Valley Section of the American Chemical Society for outstanding contributions to chemistry in their formative years. According to their students, they bring infectious enthusiasm and encouragement to the classroom and make you think about the big picture.

Good product

Detailed, answers every question in at the end of each chapter. Very helpful. I did not give it five starts because it there are some questions that leave unanswered questions. But for the most part this is a great study helper.

Doesn't explain much
By playing with death
This book is handy when you have tons of homework to finish in a small amount of time, and you just want to get the answers down and learn the material later. I know, not the best way to study, but everyone's different.

I don't recommend this book for studying, only for getting the final answer. The explanation of the answers is hit or miss. Some will tell you most steps of the process, but the majority of them skip several steps and don't tell you how they arrived at their result. It's frustrating because McQuarrie's text is difficult to understand sometimes and I wish I'd had a second explanation of the material.

its nice when they come with ALL of the answers

If you are taking physical/quantum chemistry and use Mcquarrie's book, this is a must-have. After buying so many solutions manuals, its nice when they come with ALL of the answers, and not just "selected" answers or odd/even answers.

Additionally, this book tends to show ALL of the steps (at least assuming you have at least a minimal level of competence) required to solve the problems, and includes clearly worded explanations when required.

Though a class in physical/quantum chemistry may only be a 1-star (if you're not planning on continuing into it for specialization), this solutions manual definitely deserves 5-stars.

70+ and Kickin' Butt(ocks)

WHAT A MIND SWITCH !!! Though I have not totally conquered the pain in the posterior (which comes, they say from the back... I'd been to several doctors about the pain, went to physical therapy and that made it worse, actually. So this book was recommended to me by a very reliable friend so I'm trying the process. The physical therapist was throwing up his hands and doctors told me to rest it, use heat and take OTC pain pills. Then when those didn't work...here, have some narcotics. Well they made me sicker, darn it.

So it is MIND OVER MATTER TIME! I put on my workout clothes and hit the trail. I talk to my brain a lot and I don't care if something thinks I'm nuts, I'm getting better and better! I'm not there yet but I know I'll make it. This has been going on for at least 4 years. I've only done this for about a month.

Instead of going to bed with a heating pad I suit up and get moving. What a change from walking a block and having to sit down, sometimes with tears running down my cheeks... to walking a mile telling my brain to fix the ***blasted pain. Shoot, I even do weights, resistance, bike, etc.

Thank you Dr. John Sarno, M.D. I feel like I'm living again...and get this, I'm over 70 years old.

The treatment in this book works.
I first found this book when I was
having extreme leg and back pain.
His Treatment works, IF you work it
faithfully and it is TMS, you will be
pain free. For me it took between three
and four weeks and the nine month
and thousands of doctor bill and meds
that did NO good...I was pain free.
I still have the book and whenever I
feel any kind of peculiar discomfort,
I grab it off of my shelf and refresh
with the treatment.
All of Dr John Sarno's books and
teachings are amazing.
This book was for my boss whe
has been suffering from much back
and leg pain. The doctors can not
find anything and the medications
they've prescribed do not help.

Think - surgery can't be undone, and is NOT the solution to every problem

MY back pain, for which a second surgery was recommended, was amenable to the techniques. You can't completely eliminate pain, but you can make it much worse - or you can do everything you can to NOT make it worse, and this book was one of the ones that guided me through the process.

The attitude he prescribes, that much pain is in muscle tension, over which you DO have some control, plus yoga, plus the information I picked up somewhere that half of the people walking around on this planet whose spines have the same MRI results as mine (and for which surgeons love to operate) have NO pain, made me want to move into that half. And I did. Since the first surgery did not have the promised results, I was extremely reluctant to repeat the process when the surgeons (several) told me another operation was the ONLY way to get rid of the pain. That turned out to be a lie: I avoided the second surgery, and live mostly pain-free.

I wish I had found this book before the first surgery, though I'm not sure I would have believed it then. It took not getting well after that surgery, after doing EVERY bit of PT and following ALL the recommendations, to get me to listen to alternatives.

About the Author
Michael Pendergast is a retired Strategic Air Command B-52 aircraft commander and acquisition engineer, as well as a former instructor of philosophy at a well-known Mid-western Christian university where he taught logic, introductory philosophy, and ethics. A philosopher and theologian, Major Pendergast holds degrees in engineering physics (including a minor in astrophysics), administration, international affairs, and philosophy. Widowed with three grown children, and now remarried, this graduate of Cornell University, Siena College, and the USAF Air War University lives and works in northern Maine, where he devotes much of his time to research and writing. The method to his research and writing is to establish a gestalt to understand the whole rather than merely the parts (as an example, it helps to know that science, philosophy, and theology are ultimately one and not distinctly separate disciplines). His ultimate goal is to find the real meaning of human life. His prior works include academic texts in philosophy (The Philosophy of the Human Soul and The Philosophy of Love), theology (Lord of the Impossible), and adventure/mystery (Assault on America), as well as science fiction and fantasy (The Beginning of the Beginning).

Horowitz Teacher Tarnowski Considered These Works Very Important

Vladimir Horowitz studied piano under Sergei Tarnowski from the ages of 12 through 16. During that period Tarnowski urged young Horowitz to learn the Etudes opus 72 by Moszkowski, the Chopin Etudes, and the 6 Etudes de Virtuosite of Saint Saens. Many years later a friend of mine took lessons from Tarnowski for 3 years when he was living in Beverly Hills. He seems to have condensed his technical approach considerably, boiling it down to the Moszkowski Etudes opus 72 and after mastering these 15 miniature masterpieces next learn the Kessler Selected Studies opus 20. I therefore pass this information on to you.

Lloyd and Mitchinson, the respective creator and chief researcher of the British quiz show, Q!, present an alphabetical series of short, hammy articles concerning 100 animals, Aardvark to Gibbon to Pig to Worm. The profiles are written with a snappy ready-for-TV comic style, with a great deal of adolescent elbow-ribbing over sexual appendages and defecation-much of it bizarre and/or repugnant (to humans). One of the better essays describes how a pearl really forms inside an oyster; another looks at pangolins, scale-covered mammals related to dogs. Perhaps most interesting are the clever mechanical drawings by Ted Dewan that illustrate the multiflex wrists of gibbons and diagram the Fossa, a "dog-cat-mongoose that lives in a tree." Bomb-like dinner party conversation-starters lie in the physiological and ecological arcana the authors compile; eventually, however, one tires of the inevitable parade of strange, contorted and gruesome descriptions of animal mating. Adults will only be able to stand a few at a time, and excess of sexual description limits the use of the book by younger kids, but should get teenagers and student animal lovers giggling while they learn.

Mimicking the tone of their previous best-seller (The Book of General Ignorance, 2007), Lloyd and Mitchinson take a somewhat irreverent but accurate look at some 100 animals, some familiar, some heard of it, and some obscure. In alphabetical order from aardvark to worm, the book devotes an average of two pages to fascinating animal trivia. Pangolins, those scaly anteaters that DNA studies have revealed are actually carnivores, can open their scales to allow ants in, then close the scales until they enter a pond, whereupon the anteater opens them again and feasts on the drowned ants. Horses have the largest eyes of any land mammal, the better to see and run away from predators. Hyenas have a truly matriarchal society with all females dominant to all males. Catfish have more taste buds than any other animal. And we Homo sapiens probably owe our smarts as much to our hands as to our brains. Illustrated with amusing pseudoengineering drawings of each animal, this is for dipping into, for answering trivia questions, and for just plain fun. --Nancy Bent

I gave this book as a gift to a child. He loves animals, all animals, so I hoped incorrectly this would be a winner with him. It shows how intelligent animals are, how capable they are and the strange and wondrous adaptations they have made. It's filled with illustrations and is entertaining for children and adults. The focus tends to be on the bizarre but makes one appreciate animals for being so magnificent in unique ways.

Suprising Animal Behaviors & Facts

If you love animals, as most of us do, you will find interesting new facts in this book titled "Animal Ignorance". Most of the animals are not the cute & fuzzy ones, and as I recall, I skipped one or two chapters that made me feel squeamish, like Bats & Spiders. After all, I read in bed late at night!! But overall, I enjoyed learning new facts about some of the animals I've shared Planet Earth with all my life.

Educational FUN!

It won't take long to find yourself smiling as you start to read this one. Then you'll look up at whoever is around and say "Did you know...?" Not a heavy, 'break your brain' book, but you will have a ton of knowledge sticking around your brain cells when you finish it.
Great for picking it up for a few minutes of entertainment, or a longer relaxing stay, with lots of smiles. I think you'll enjoy it.

A good reference to try and find a word

A good reference to try and find a word. Not much in there- I like the frequently used phrases, mostly because they cracked me up ("where is your horse"). My in-laws are Amish and i am trying to learn the language. It will take a lot more than this little book. Also, PA dutch isn't really a written language so there's many ways to spell things- this is written phonetically.

teaching your dog a second language

Fun book. Needed dog training vocabulary in a language not ordinarily used by dog's trainers/handlers. Portuguese too complicated. Amish proves to be simple, easy to remember. The world around my service dog converses in English while he only understands Amish so no chance of anyone messing up my training!
