Simple, fun, & deep. This book was great!

I found this book on amazon after seeing Sri Sri (the author) on the MTV show Fantasy Factory. I liked the episode, and thought I would see what else he says. This book was great, I couldn't put it down. Each page led straight into the next. There's a lot of practical information on being more successful and happier without being preachy or heavy-handed.

I'm sure that I will turn to this book many times. It turned my mood around today.

George Ritzer is Distinguished University Professor at the University of Maryland, where he has been a Distinguished Scholar-Teacher and won a Teaching Excellence award by the American Sociological Association, and in 2004, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by LaTrobe University, Melborune, Australia. He has served as Chair of the American Sociological Association's Sections on Theoretical Sociology and organizations and Occupations. He held the UNESCO Chair in Social Theory at the Russian Academy of Sciences, a Fulbright-Hay Chair at York University in Canada, and a Fulbright-Hays award to the Netherlands. He has been Scholar-in-Residence at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study and the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study in the Social Sciences. Dr. Ritzer's main theoretical interests lie in metatheory as well as applied social theory. In metatheory, his contributions include Metatheorizing in Sociology(Lexington Books, 1991), Sociology: A Multiple Paradigm Science (Allyn and Bacon, 1975, 1980), and Toward an Integrated Sociological Paradigm (Allyn and Bacon). Professor Ritzer is perhaps best known for the McDonaldization of Society (4/e, 2004); translated into more than a dozen languages) and several related books (also with a number of translations, including Expressing America: A Critique of the Global Credit Card Society (1995), Enchanting a Disenchanted World: Revolutionizing the Means of Consumption (2/e, 2005),The Globalization of Nothing (2/e, 2007), and (with Craig Lair) Outsourcing: Globalization and Beyond. He edited the Encyclopedia of Social Theory (2005), and is the founding editor of the Journal of Consumer Culture. He just completed editing the eleven-volume Encyclopedia of Sociology (2007) and The Blackwell Companion to Globalization (2007). In 2006, McGraw-Hill published the second edition of Professor Ritzer's Contemporary Sociological Theory and Its Classic Roots: The Basics. In 2007, McGraw-Hill will publish the seventh edition of Modern Sociological Theory, and the fifth edition of Classical Sociological Theory. The latter texts, as well as this one, have been translated into a number of languages.

Excellent theory book for sociology majors.

Ritzer's Sociological Theory is a comprehensive review of major sociological theories and various schools of thought in the field. The text utilizes biographies of the sociologists behind the major theories and integrates the theories in historical contexts. It successfully lays down the foundation of sociology and compares classic sociological theories to contemporary thinking.

While the text is well-written, it sometimes felt too dense compared to other sociological theory texts. It still remains as one of the best sociological theory books that addresses the old and new theories of sociology. It most definitely helped me in my undergraduate studies.

Fantastic overview of Sociological Theory

I had to purchase this for a class, but this book is so informative and written in such an engaging way that it never felt like work. I am in the final semester of a double major in Psychology and Sociology so believe me I have had to read more than a few books on social sciences. This one, however, kept my attention so well that I couldn't believe it when we were nearly complete. I have honestly considered giving this as a gift to some friends who are curious about sociology. A textbook. As a gift. It's seriously that well written.

Good, well writen book. the included CD-ROM is also good. I was looking for some 'norms' and one of the only places that had the lower intestinal fortitude to include them was this CD. Is this book as good or better than some of the other texts out there (Oh or Kimura) No, but it is still usefull.

An Outstanding Book!

I've used "Environmental Law" by Nancy K Kubasek and Gary S. Silverman in two seated classes and one online course. It is an outstanding text for describing the parameters of our legal system to students. Those to want a glorified HAZMAT approach to environmental law (or want to ignore the legal system) might not like the book. I love it.

The author of this books is an attorney who does a fairly good job with the big picture but not very well with the science. If you're only looking for a quick study of the structure of environmental law in the U.S., which is about one-third of this book, it's readable and informative. It also uses language and structure that's accessible for advanced high school and lower division college students in giving and overview of the U.S. legal and regulatory system for the environment. The author creates a good historical context for these discussions. However, the book begins to lose its polish when the author ventures into discussions of the science behind the law. I noted several points where the presentation of the science was clearly poorly informed (ozone and global warming, nuclear and alternative engery). If you're only looking for an general introduction to environmenal law, this book will get you started. But, if you want to get a good idea of the science that drives environmental law, keep looking.

Good Book

This book arrived in great condition and the delivery was fast.
As far as the content goes, it was a lovely book; it provided a great overview of most, if not all environmental issues faced by us today. It also provided case studies and copious amounts of examples of real court suits that give reason to why our laws are the way they are today, as well as the flaws in those laws.
Loved it.

What an Awesome book!!!

I read your book today and it was a breath of fresh air... Very uplifting and insightful...you may never know who may need to hear the words you wrote...people are battling things that they don't convey to anyone...my prayer is that your book do all that you intended for it to do times 1000... I'm low key mad at that old lady at church though... She was sooo wrong but you are indeed an overcomer... Keep inspiring! YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!

This book gives people "Food for thought". Not only does Fallon give readers an understanding of her birthmark; she gives them encouragement that can be applied in all life experiences.

This book should be on a reading list for middle and high school students . She would also be an excellent speaker on "Living Your Life Purpose Courageously".
