Mr. Putter himself has not been cute and peppy for a very long time"). At the animal shelter, however, he finds Tabby, a decidedly old yellow-and-white cat who needs a friend, too. In the second installment, quicker paced if less true to life, Mr. Putter and Tabby offer to take care of a neighbor's bulldog, Zeke, only to discover that Zeke isn't the darling "little lollypup" his owner believes him to be. Rylant's ( Missing May ; the Henry and Mudge series) texts, each broken into three short chapters, reflect admirable concern for brevity and meticulous consideration of every word. They are in perfect sync with Howard's expressive sketches, which slip abundant visual jokes into sunny, transparent watercolors and gouaches, and fluid pencil and pastel scribbles. Because the animals aren't strongly anthropomorphized, a sense of realism prevails, and the overall effect is sweet but never schmaltzy. Kindergarten-Grade 3-Tired of living alone, Mr. Putter finds himself a perfect pet at an animal shelter. It is an old yellow cat with creaking bones and thinning fur who seems to be "a little deaf." But after all, "Mr. Putter creaked, his hair was thinning and he was a little deaf, too." Rylant's charming story of two elderly characters is complemented and enhanced by Howard's delightful illustrations, done in pencil, watercolor, and gouache. Mr. Putter's senior status and the style of illustration are reminiscent of James Stevenson's pictures for Helen V. Griffith's Grandaddy's Place (Greenwillow, 1987). A finely crafted beginning reader.

Mr. Putter craves someone to share his muffins and tea and stories; sensibly ignoring the pet store lady's conviction that only ``cute,'' ``peppy'' kittens are worthy (``Mr. Putter himself had not been cute and peppy for a very long time''), he goes to the animal shelter and chooses an old yellow cat--a little deaf, and with thinning hair, like him. It goes without saying that the two become comfortable companions. Rylant's apt descriptions and artful repetitions set this easy reader and its sequel (Mr. Putter and Tabby Walk the Dog, ISBN: 0-15-256259-1) a cut above the competition, though not on a par with her own incomparable Henry and Mudge. Mr. Putter and Tabby books are among our favorite! This is what I would call the first in the series. Mr. Putter goes through the process of determining why he wants a partner and why an old cat is the perfect partner for him. My 4 year old has added the adorable word "peppy" to her daily vocabulary now.

This is a really sweet story...
Mr. Putter is old and lonely and needs a furry friend...
He finds Tabby at a shelter who is also old and lonely and finds a friend in Mr. Putter.
A delightful, warm story that explains how Mr. Putter & Tabby started.

What "I" love is that Cynthia Rylant has quite a knack for writing children's books.
Her books are so engaging.
My daughter (6) LOVES reading her books...
Not only are her stories magnificent but the artwork is always so crisp, colorful and refreshing...adding so much to the story.

Highly recommend this or any of the other Mr. Putter & Tabby books in the series.

A most wonderful book!

I think this book (and the rest of the Mr. Putter and Tabby series) is just wonderful! The stories are nice for a children's book and the illustrations have a warm and inviting feel to them. I love that the heroes of this series is an old dude and his pet. Perhaps it will give the youngsters a better attitude toward older adults. The entire series is a favorite of my daughter, and I never felt bored with the book even after reading it for the thousandth time!

This book has some good information on the flat earth if you can get ...

This book has some good information on the flat earth if you can get past the numerous typos’ and poor sentence structure. You’d think that one of the “7 contributors” would have proof read the document. This book makes statements of “fact” like “there are universes outside the dome” without any supporting documentation and were just supposed to believe him. The book is large print, sometimes double spaced with lots of pictures and 2/3 blank pages. The most verbiage comes from the “forward” by William Cooper. But the “forward” is at the end of the book. Mr. Cooper died in 2001 well before this book was published. A “forward” should be about what a great job the author did, but not in this case since I doubt that Mr. Cooper even knew this book was going to be published. If you want to know what Mr. Cooper thought then buy his “Behold a Pale Horse”. If you remove the “forward” then the book gets greatly reduced in size. It should really be called a pamphlet. At $23.75 plus shipping it is a rip off. He has links in the book that have no corresponding URL. This book is meant for downloading as a Kindle edition at which point it would be worth the $4.95.

Everyone in the world needs to read this book. I always knew that the world is not like the powers that be says it is. I have read and reread the Bible and everything you need to know about this earth is there in black and white. This book breaks down all the lies that govern the people who are too lazy to think for themselves and readily accept what is spoon fed to them. Anyone with half a brain and uses it knows that you cannot trust any government, or people who work for it. Life as many know it is an illusion as plainly explained in this book, and backed up by the Bible. There IS God.

Satan rules this world at the moment and his best game is keeping those who do not want to see, hoodwinked. God is sovereign and satan's time is soon to be up. But right now, those who are too lazy and blinded are living in a science fiction created by lies, fancy phrases, silly unreal mathematics, ridiculous 'theories' that are based on NOTHING but air, and murderous governments that don't want you to know that God IS.

A wonderful expose and kudos to those who have the courage to liberate the world, tell the unvarnished truth, and try diligently to spread it abroad even at the risk of death.

The Earth is not a Spinning ball flying through space as you have learned as child in School. That globe in your classroom is a mind control device to indoctrinate you to the lie of the big bang, and evolution. It's used to remove the Creator, our great Lord God, the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Satellites are not real, I have included a picture from the Goes13 shown through the University of WI Weather site a moon they pasted in their weather Satellite live feed. One would think a University would have more care in what they tell the students is real or not, since they take their money. That does not seem to be the case. Students come out of these mind control institutions saying it's Gravity, it's gravity yet they are never shown a real world experiment that mass actually attracts anything.

This book was written by those that know and have inside information. it will open your eyes to the real world around you and remove the illusion you have been told is reality.

Great book.

I went thru many sections on the net, trying to find a book in English to use in learning how to play the Erhu. I never found one, til this came along. I am glad I went to Amazon that day. This book not only teaches you how to play, it teaches you how to string your Erhu, how to bow, how to wax th bow, how the bow fits on your Erhu, how to hold the Erhu, and how to position your hands and arms for playing the Erhu. I was so delighted to finally find, not only a great book in English, but one that teaches everything. It even has songs to learn to play. It is fantastic. I would advise everyone wanting to play the Erhu to read this book.

This is book is written by a erhu virtuoso , Patty Chan. Great starter book for learning the Chinese 2 stringed violin , the erhu. Highly readable and recommended for students studying non-Western music since it is the first book I've found written in English for non-Chinese. Exciting third book in the Spy X series.

Eleven-year-old twins Andrew and Evie Wall thought they were finally getting close to finding their mom, a spy who has been missing for over a year, in their new home of San Francisco. But then they were betrayed by someone they thought could be trusted, and they fear they are at another dead end. But then they receive another package from Mom, with more clues to decipher. Only this time, Mom's messages seem to be leading the twins into danger. Can they uncover the truth in time?

This is another fun mystery adventure from the Spy X series. As usual, it ends on a cliffhanger, and I wish I could read the next book now. Readers who enjoyed the first two books in the series won't want to miss this one and will be eagerly looking forward to the fourth book. I highly recommend this series to kids looking for a fun spy adventure.

Peter Lerangis pullsit off again! This book is filled with brain busting codes, traps, secrets, deceptions, and really cool ending.

Andrew and Evie take on the next set of clues sent by their mother in this mysterious book. But all is not what it seems. Now the twins are in danger from the mysterious "Company" and have to avoid company agents. They must hurry to crack the codes to be reunited with Spy X ( Their mother. ). I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope to see many more in this series!

KIDS LOVE IT!!

I am an elementary school teacher. I picked up Spy X #1 on a whim and loved it. I read that book as a read aloud to my class and they were hooked. We have since read Spy X #2 and #3. My class can not get enough. These books make excellent read aloud stories because no matter where you stop for the day the kids are left hanging...they want more! My students are now counting down the days for Spy X #4 to be released. What a wonderful series to get kids excited about reading!!

What a great way to get started on the ukulele. I love that the language is simple (most of us don't understand music theory) and that the bulk of your time is spent with the videos that are imbedded within the chapters. This makes it so easy to understand the concepts and provides a great visual tutor. What a great, simple way to go from zero to playing!

Great book on learning how to play the ukulele. This book teaches everything you need to know to get started on the ukulele and the videos are an awesome added bonus.
