Very good introduction !

It's perfect to get a general view about BPMN 2.0. It covers the main characteristics with an easy language and good examples.
If you need a deeper view about it, you should get other books and BPMN spec.
But, if you are looking for a 3 hours good introduction, just get it !

Reader-friendly BPMN 2.0 handbook

"BPMN 2.0 Introduction to the Standard for Business Process Modeling" by Allweyer is one of my favourite books concerning the BPMN notation. It is a very good book explaining BPMN features in detail and covering all the BPMN 2.0 constructs. However, it is not a guide for business architects or analysts, rather a nice reader-friendly theoretical source, much friendlier than the BPMN 2.0 specification.

Amazingly well-done

I taught a course in advanced probability out of the first half of Klenke's _Probability Theory_ during Fall 2009 at Brigham Young University, and I'm just starting to teach the follow-on course out of the second half. I am, therefore, thoroughly familiar with the first half of the book but admittedly only vaguely familiar with the second half. I've decided to go ahead and write a review now based on this incomplete information in order to help faculty who may be selecting a probability textbook now for the coming academic year.

In my opinion, this is an extraordinarily good textbook! I've taught classes out of some great books before (e.g., Rudin's _Real and Complex Analysis_, Jones' _Lebesgue Integration on Euclidean Space_, Abbott's _Understanding Analysis_) but I can't remember ever being as impressed with a textbook as I am with Klenke's. His logical arguments are amazingly precise and clear. Even little things like his choices of notation and fonts seem ideal. I think German is Klenke's native language, but his use of English in this book is not stilted at all. The book is mainly self-contained and, in particular, does measure theory from scratch. It was quite a revelation to me to see how clearly and concisely one could work up to Caratheodory's measure extension theorem.

Judging by the copies that appeared on the shelf of the campus bookstore this semester, Springer has not yet subjected Klenke's book to the print-on-demand treatment, so the printing is still nice and sharp. From the perspective of a mathematician and a book lover, _Probability Theory_ is a work of art, and it's been a genuine privilege to get to use it.

This could be a new Standard Reference for Probability Theory!

For a while I was trying to learn Probability Theory from Patrick Billingsley's textbook, which I believe is a standard in many universities (at least in our university that was the recommended reference). Until I was very lucky to stumble upon a copy of this book, very new release (2008 for the English version) at a book fair. I skimmed through it, looked for an Amazon review (there was only one at that time) and was easily convinced, from first impressions, so I bought the single copy at the book fair.

Now that I have read most of it, I think this book stands a good chance to become THE new, stand-alone, standard reference for probability theory (I would vote for it, if there was a poll). It has many wonderful qualities: very clear presentation - I thought the contents could have been ready-made for use as lecture notes, having a wonderful clarity. Quite comprehensive, many proofs are provided, which is perfect for self-learning, and the author gives sufficient hints whenever proofs are shortened.

I appreciate the sections on more fundamental topics such as measure theory, which to me was something new, and very useful. I like how the "pre-requisite" sections were clearly indicated but not all lumped in the beginning. For example, the review of topology, in anticipation of the section on product measure. Very compact, yet rigorous, treatment of regular conditional densities, the Radon-Nikodym derivative, the martingale theory, optional sampling etc. an introduction to stochastic calculus. Topics from applications also abound, and a couple of nice, anectdotal commentaries here and there.

The whole text strikes me as very "modern" and very very clear. To be honest, this has been my favorite book this past year.

If you are a graduate student who wishes to specialize in Probability, this may be a great starting point, to cover a rigorous study of the fundamentals. It does not cover some of the more advanced topics in detail (such as in Protter, Stochastic Integration). If on the other hand you are in a "hurry" to learn probability, perhaps other, shorter books maybe better for you, like Jacod and Protter's Probability Essentials, or Rosenthal's A First Look at Rigorous Probability Theory, both of which are also clear and excellent texts though not nearly as comprehensive like Klenke's.

Comprehensive introductory reference

I've only skimmed my library's copy, and so decided to buy it. While aimed at an undergrad level, it appears to be remarkably comprehensive. Although I was already familiar with most areas covered in the book, I'd only picked up my knowledge piecemeal, from many different, and disparate sources. Thus, I was pleasantly surprised to find all this info in just one place.

The book may strike some readers as "dense", and it does resemble a reference work. It is stuffed with precise definitions, reviewing all of the variants of a given definition, carefully making subtle distinctions. This may make it tough slogging for the beginner, but seems ideal for anyone who is already familiar with the subject, and wants to dig a little deeper, or to have a handy introductory reference.

An important theoretical reference to Galekin methods for PDEs

Written by one of the leading figures in the field of variational methods and numerical mathematics, this book is an invaluable reference for graduate students and researchers working in the field of Galerkin methods. It is written by a mathematician, with the formalism proper of a mathematician; it may thus appear somewhat cumbersome if the reader is seeking an applied insight of the finite element method. However, the inclined engineer/scientist/mathematician will find its formalism an important ingredient to deeply understand the theory behind the method, although built in a very understandable language.
The books covers different types of Galerkin schemes, with special attention to finite elements and spectral elements, and a bit on the finite volume and finite difference methods. It should be considered by those who are willing to make an intellectual effort to understanding the theory of finite elements, but should be avoided by those expecting a book that could help with their practical implementation --some implementation issues are introduced in the context of object-oriented programming, but it may not be enough for beginners. This is the translation of the original Italian edition: Modellistica Numerica per Problemi Differenziali.

An excellent book on an oft-overlooked subject.

The Italian artillery modernization program of the 1930s resulted in a family of very good designs. Their limited industrial base, however, precluded the production of large numbers, so the army fought the war mostly with outdated weapons. As a result the Italian artillery park has never received the coverage in English that it deserved. This has now changed. This book covers both the new and old families of weapons from the 20mm anti-tank rifle to the 210/22 heavy howitzer. Also included are AA guns (although not coast defense weapons), self-propelled guns, and artillery tractors.

The authors not only provide technical information on each of the various weapons, but also went to considerable effort to dig up reliable production numbers. Brief coverage is also given to deployment of the weapons, since extensive reporting would require a large book all its own.

Highly recommended, this book deserves space on the bookshelf of anyone interested in the Italian Army of World War Two.

Daniel Gu�rin�was a prominent member of the French left for half a century. He published�The Brown Plague�in 1933 and�Fascism and Big Business�in 1936. It portrays the work conditions that led to a massive waist-workers' strike in which an unlikely coalition of socialists, socialites, and suffragettes took on bosses, police, and magistrates. Von Drehle puts a human face on those who died in the fire, and shows how popular revulsion at the Triangle catastrophe led to an unprecedented alliance between idealistic labor reformers and the supremely pragmatic politicians of the Tammany machine.

It was a profitable business in a modern fireproof building heralded as a model of efficiency. Yet the Triangle Shirtwaist factory in New York City became the deadliest workplace in American history when fire broke out on the premises on March 25, 1911. Within about 15 minutes the blaze killed 146 workers-most of them immigrant Jewish and Italian women in their teens and early 20s. Though most workers on the eighth and 10th floors escaped, those on the ninth floor were trapped behind a locked exit door. As the inferno spread, the trapped workers either burned to death inside the building or jumped to their deaths on the sidewalk below. Journalist Von Drehle (Lowest of the Dead: Inside Death Row and Deadlock: The Inside Story of America's Closest Election) recounts the disaster-the worst in New York City until September 11, 2001-in passionate detail. He explains the sociopolitical context in which the fire occurred and the subsequent successful push for industry reforms, but is at his best in his moment-by-moment account of the fire. He describes heaps of bodies on the sidewalk, rows of coffins at the makeshift morgue where relatives identified charred bodies by jewelry or other items, and the scandalous manslaughter trial at which the Triangle owners were acquitted of all charges stemming from the deaths. Adult/High School-Von Drehle has embedded the intense, moving tale of the tragic Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in a fascinating, meticulously documented account of a crucial period in U.S. history. In addition to using an impressive list of secondary sources, the author has drawn heavily on newspaper articles, author Leon Stine's interviews with survivors, and trial transcripts. In a short prologue, he provides a poignant account of stunned, grieving relatives trying to identify burned bodies. To show why the tragedy occurred, he then goes back two years to the beginning of the 1909 general strike. The stifling, dingy tenements and the horrific conditions of the factories where immigrant workers toiled for 84-hour workweeks are described in evocative detail. Stories of the hardships they left behind in Italy and Eastern Europe contribute to the portraits of the victims and villains. Readers unfamiliar with Tammany Hall, the Progressive movement, or the rise of trade unions benefit from clear, concise background information. The account of the fire, the investigation, and the trial are both heartbreaking and enraging. The courtroom drama of defense attorney Max Steuer brazenly defending the factory owners overshadows any modern comparison. After concluding with the announcement of the trial verdict, the author provides an epilogue covering the final years of the key figures. An appendix gives the first complete list of victims. Eight black-and-white photos are included.

Wonderful book about the event and the time.

This is a terrific book about not only the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, but also the political and labor situation at the time. Frances Perkins - Secretary of Labor under FDR - has as starring role here, as do some of the union leaders and politicians of the time. The influence of Tammany Hall was about to wane and the labor union movement was about to explode - greatly helped along by the horrific fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. The reader gets to know the history of some of the girls who were trapped in the fire - some escaped and some died in the flames.

I found it so frustrating that there weren't regulations in place before the fire to prevent the carnage from ever happening. Even after the fire, things seemed to move slowly. Everyone was horrified and wanted to make sure nothing like that ever happened again. But no one went to jail and change did not come fast. Why does it so often take a tragedy to inspire people to do the right thing? I suspect there will be other readers as disheartened as I was at how this played out for the factory owners. I also suspect that others will see parallels between the events of the early 1900s and today - no one is ever to blame!

Not what I had expected, but still a fine book

The book was not really what I had expected. I had looked for a more personal account of the people who died and those who survived. My husband's grandmother was an Eastern European immigrant to New York shortly after the time period of the Triangle Fire. She came alone to this country, lived with relatives already here, and worked in one of the garment factories. With the great exception that she escaped the Fire, her early life in this country was the life that had been lived by the Triangle victims, and I think I had expected to learn more about this life.
Mr. von Drehle makes clear that the book I had expected is just not possible because of the great scarcity of source material. He does what he can in general terms: he tells where the majority of these women came from and the circumstances most of them escaped. He details the incredibly long hours they worked, the incredibly small wages they received, and the fact that many still managed to help support families in this country or The Old Country. He explains that, because of the horrific over-crowding of the tenements in which they lived, their lives away from work were spent on the streets. Here they found community with people of their own background, language, and age; intellectual stimulation in the many near-by free courses offered by NYU and various associations; and exposure to the social and political thought of the day. But these generalities are pretty much as far as he is able to go.
The real subject matter of this book is political change; in particular, the liberalization of New York. In this context, the Triangle Fire was no more than a tremendous spur to this change. His enduring characters are less the women of Triangle and more the reporters, business people, public officials, and primarily the politicians who, willingly or not, took part in this change. He chronicles the fall of Tammany Hall and the rise of the Democrats. Once I got past the realization that the book was other than what I had expected, I grew to appreciate it for what it is. It is a well-documented and compelling account of a time of change and the people (certainly including the victims of the Fire) who combined to bring it about.

Very Interesting!

This is the definitive historical book that explores the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire. Author von Drehle gives a human face to the tragedy by writing about the people, mostly girls and women, who died and also those who escaped.
It is interesting to learn how buildings were designed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and how buildings such as the one that housed Triangle were not designed for the safety of the occupants and how lax inspections precipitated the horrific fire that occurred. I also found out where the term "sweatshop" originated. Besides this documentation, the author also includes a look at the trial where the owners of the building were charged with knowingly locking exit doors and disallowing workers to escape the blaze. It looks like a no-brainer, but there were some twists in the testimony that made the outcome of the trial a surprise.
This book kept my interest and kept me turning pages until late at night. I would recommend this book to anyone who like history and in particular New York in the early 20th century.
