About the Author
Father Thomas Keating is known throughout the world as an exponent, teacher, and writer on contemplative prayer. A Cistercian (Trappist) monk of St. Benedict's Monastery, Snowmass, Colorado, he is a founder of the Centering Prayer Movement and of Contemplative Outreach. He is the author of numerous books, particularly of the trilogy Open Mind, Open Heart; Invitation to Love; and The Mystery of Christ. He comprado varios libros para regalar o para prestar y asi compartir la inmensa sabiduria que esta aqui escrita. Ampliamente recomendable para aquellos que buscanr una union intima con Dios. Para aquellos que quieren apagar su Ego y dejar que Dios sea el que gobierne sus vidas. Es una invitacion a amar al projimo y para ello se requiere amarse a uno mismo. Para hacerlo tiene que sucitarse la sanacion personal que solo Dios la pude dar.

This is a decent book, but nothing exciting. It is more meant for children that adult fans of the Avatar television series. Unfortunately, this is book is heavily tied in to the abysmal movie by M.N. Shyamalan., less to the amazing television series by Mike and Bryan. One big downside is that the characters are drawn in a mixture of styles - Zuko and Iroh are drawn as their movie characters look, but Azula and Patik look as they did in the cartoon series - so it feels a little strange. Overall, it was cute, but did not snap and crackle with the amazing storytelling we all came to expect from the Avatar on television.

Small Look into Zuko's Past!

For those that couldn't tell, this book is really short and is a nice little manga about Zuko's banaishment. I'm guessing this is supposed to be for people who haven't exactly watched the series and want to know why Zuko is hunting for the avatar. But, if you have watched the series then this gives you a lot of new insight as well. A few things have changed though, one being the artists rendition of Iroh who looks more like his actor than are big old fluffy friend from TV. For the characters who have yet to be casted like Mai, Ty Lee, and Azula, they look like their normal TV selves. Anyways, this manga comic maps out the first days of Zuko's banishment where he goes around searching for the avatar in the air temples while also dealing with his emotions (which are really fired up....haha...) Different from the original series, this shows you how Zuko becomes the Blue Spirit. It's different from the tv show because it gives the hint that he's been the blue spirit for a long time. (Remeber Zuko is banished a full 2 years before he finds the avatar) All in all, it was a good read especially for a hard core Avatar fan like me. I expect the movie to be really good and I can't wait. 3D whoo!

Skip it. Avoid at all costs!

This book is absolutely terrible. The art is terrible, the story is butchered beyond all belief, and the characters are flat and boring. Now I'm a big fan of the show and I cannot wait for the upcoming live-action film, but this is just a senseless money grab. You could finish this in less than an hour! Granted, it is a book for kids, but it feels like the spirit of the show and everything that made it one of the greatest animations of all time is just skinned alive and butchered into a 100 page fiasco of suck. Oh, and the artwork. Is this the first time the illustrator has drawn something? It shows. Half the time, I couldn't figure out what was a wall or a scenery. It looks unfinished and rushed, much like this book in general. The story loosely (very loosely) follows the events of season 1 of the show and the live-action movie coming up. I hope you have prior knowledge of the story before reading because the book does a poor job of explaining the plot. Just stay away from this thing and use your $9 to buy yourself a ticket to the film in July. You won't regret it, unless the movie sucks too. After reading this garbage, my faith for the movie greatly declined.

The story was also published under the title "The Room with Something Wrong" in a collection of stories entitled "Somebody on the Phone."

Cornell George Hopley-Woolrich (4 December 1903 – 25 September 1968) is one of America's best crime and noir writers who sometimes wrote under the pseudonyms William Irish and George Hopley. He's often compared to other celebrated crime writers of his day, Dashiell Hammett, Erle Stanley Gardner and Raymond Chandler.

He attended New York's Columbia University but left school in 1926 without graduating when his first novel, "Cover Charge", was published. "Cover Charge" was one of six of his novels that he credits as inspired by the work of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Woolrich soon turned to pulp and detective fiction, often published under his pseudonyms. His best known story today is his 1942 "It Had to Be Murder" for the simple reason that it was adapted into the 1954 Alfred Hitchcock movie "Rear Window"starring James Stewart and Grace Kelly. It was remade as a television film by Christopher Reeve in 1998.

old fashioned mystery story

This is a fun read that typifies the stories that filled the pulp mystery magazines and digests of the 1940s and 1950s. The story pulls the reader in immediately--why would three men all commit suicide while staying in the same hotel room on different occasions? The hero is a hotel detective who reads pulp magazines and battles all kinds of obstacles to learn the truth behind the suicides in room 913.

Cornell Woolrich was one of the top suspense writers of the era and penned the story on which the movie "Rear Window" was based. Mystery in Room 913 is one of his best stories and it really holds up well after fifty years or so. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a short, entertaining read to pass the time.

Lean and Entertaining

This fantastic tale spun so deftly and entertainingly by the great Cornel Woolrich in the mid-1930s, even before he had worked his way so deeply into his craft — and compulsion — that only Chandler, Gardner, Hammett and Cain could be mentioned in the same breath, almost makes me a bit sad. The reason? Because I can rest assured that at some point, a modern day reader will post a comment here such as: “Okay, but very old-fashioned and doesn’t read well,” or worse, “Well-told, I suppose but much shorter than I’d like.” At that point I will want to scream: “That’s because you’re used to bloated and inconsequential book fare and wouldn’t recognize a brilliant little piece of fiction if it began walking and came up to bite you in the rear end.”

Mystery in Room 913 is a near perfect little mystery/suspense story. Woolrich wrote it lean, telling a story, as all the truly great ones did. Yet despite the brevity of the tale, which is in the seventy-page ballpark, you get a clear impression of the characters from the moment you meet them, an atmosphere for the setting, and a deep curiosity for what’s behind it all which keeps you turning the page.

The main character is the hotel detective, Striker, who is first on the scene when Room 913 claims its first victim. A brief, unsigned note allows the brash and none too eager city detective to write it off as suicide, but Striker believes the man’s fall from 913 was murder. A year later, a second man suffers the same fate, through the same window, and again a brief and unsigned note allows the same city detective to write it off as suicide, and save himself some work. Striker knows better, and others in the hotel begin to suspect something out of the ordinary is going on in room 913.

Why can you feel a depression in 913? Why does a dog who never whines do so only moments before one of the victims plunges to his death? What about the devil-mask Striker discovers in a tenant’s room? What of the smell of sandalwood? And what to make of the lightning someone claims to have seen at the exact same moment one of the men met his fate? The victims are always single check-ins, never a couple. Striker, frustrated that the copper won’t look into it any further, knows it is only a matter of time before room 913 strikes again.

Some investigation, and a ruse is perpetrated by Striker in order to prevent another “suicide” but the best laid plans don’t always work. Striker’s obsession to know the truth about room 913 leads to an exciting climax and solution. Set during the mid-thirties and written then, the story has the feel of watching a 1930s black and white mystery, a nifty little “B” perhaps, tightly written and quickly paced so not an inch of celluloid is wasted. Economically written yet not without atmosphere, the solution is fun and suspenseful. It is no more, nor less plausible than many great mysteries (Christie’s Death in Mesopotamia, for example).

Woolrich wrote a barrel full of great short stories — most famously the noir stories where everyone was doomed. Some became films in the 1940s — Black Angel, Phantom Lady. Hitchcock’s Rear Window in the 1950s is based on Woolrich’s It Had to Be Murder. This one goes further back, however, when he was writing mystery and romance, and is more an entertaining mystery than a noir tale. Great stuff if you enjoy a lean and entertaining style of writing. If you’re a fan of Woolrich, a must read novelette.

About the Author
Dr. James T. Shipman was a long-time physics educator at Ohio University, his alma mater, and was Professor Emeritus until his passing in 2009.

Jerry Wilson received his physics degrees from Ohio University (B.S., Ph.D.) and Union College in Schenectady, New York (M.S.). In addition to co-writing PHYSICS LABORATORY EXPERIMENTS, he is one of the original authors of the first edition of AN INTRODUCTION OF PHYSICAL SCIENCE (published in 1971) and has several other physics textbooks to his credit. Wilson is currently Emeritus Professor of Physics at Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina.

Dr. Aaron W. Todd retired from Middle Tennessee State University. He passed away in 2007.

Making Science Easy

Since my class is only five chapters in, I can only attest that this book makes basic physics easy to understand. It is well written and the chapters tackle just enough information that you can easily follow along each week. The examples and illustrations make topics clear and the given formulas directly relate to the homework questions. I recommend it as a great physical science text for non-science majors.

I purchased this book while finishing my BA degree and I made the big mistake of selling it after completing the course. I will be purchasing this book again, it's just one of those books that you should always keep in your library for reference.

Great Book Price

I buy all of my books on line now, after I wrote a paper on the cost of college textbooks and found out all the other alternatives and choices that I have. I learned that many of the editions have slight changes in it from one edition to the other, so if your book is not availabe you can purchase the earlier edition and get the same information.

Kroemer is a Professor in the Virginia Polytechnic Institute's department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, in Blacksburg, VA, where he also directs the Industrial Ergonomics Laboratory.

Great Ergo Engineering book

This book was a must-have for one of my engineering classes and the book was extremely expensive through my school's website. I was able to find this book from Amazon, at a cheaper price and brand new, as well as received my book a 3 days before my class began. The author used lots of knowledge and illustrations in the book to explain the subject of ergonomics. I can see why this book was chosen as a teaching favorite. Some books can be extremely "dry" with the material, but the authors of this book provided resourceful information to help the student or reader understand. I keep this book handy at my desk library.
