About the Author
JAMES BALDWIN (1924–1987) was a novelist, essayist, playwright, poet, social critic, and the author of more than twenty books. His first novel, Go Tell It on the Mountain, appeared in 1953 to excellent reviews, and his essay collections Notes of a Native Son and The Fire Next Time were bestsellers that made him an influential figure in the civil rights movement.�Baldwin�spent many years in France, where he moved to escape the racism and homophobia of the�United States.�He died in 1987.

RAOUL PECK is a filmmaker acclaimed for his historical, political, and artistic work. Haitian-born, he grew up in Congo, France, Germany, and the United States. His body of work includes the films The Man by the Shore (Competition, Cannes 1993); Lumumba (Cannes 2000, HBO); and Sometimes in April (2005, HBO). He is currently chairman of the French national film school, La F�mis, and recently completed his next feature film, The Young Karl Marx (2017).

I watched two men, coming from unimaginably different backgrounds,
whose positions, originally, were poles apart,
driven closer and closer together.

By the time each died, their positions had become virtually the same position.
It can be said, indeed, that Martin picked up Malcolm’s burden,
articulated the vision which Malcolm had begun to see,
and for which he paid with his life.
And that Malcolm was one of the people Martin saw on the mountaintop.

Medgar was too young to have seen this happen,though he hoped for it, and would not have been surprised;
but Medgar was murdered first.

I was older than Medgar, Malcolm, and Martin.
I was raised to believe that the eldest was supposed to be a model for the younger,
and was, of course, expected to die first.

Not one of these three lived to be forty.

What an amazing book. It is kind of the script to the movie, which I loved. Baldwin was an astonishingly intelligent and thoughtful voice in a very troubled period. We need more voices like his now.

A nice companion piece to the film

Impressionistic. Powerful. This book (and the film on which it is based) seem less intended to educate white people than to emote the perspective of one of the most perceptive and articulate 20th century voices of color.

This book is not a primer for people unfamiliar with Baldwin. It's a tribute to a project that Baldwin himself didn't live to see completed. I think it works best as a companion piece to the film rather than a stand-alone book. (For instance, it includes excerpts from transcripts of movies that influenced Baldwin or that Baldwin reviewed, and these work better in their original medium.) I recommend seeing the film first, and then using the book for meditating and revisiting afterward.

I'd still like to see the full manuscript of Baldwin's "Remember This House," in addition to the spliced up version used in this book. I would've liked if the book made it more clear where these particular excerpts are. It will be most successful if it points more and more readers to Baldwin's works.

An enlightening and awakening experience

This book intricately wove the thread of connection between Malcolm, Martin, and Medgar. Most individuals rarely mention Malcolm and omit Medgar altogether. But here readers have the opportunity to experience all 3. More specifically, after reading James Baldwin's 'I am not your negro', you will see more from his perspective too. His words gently force you to admit truth, know your purpose, and serve well in the process. All four gentlemen (James, Malcolm, Martin and Medgar) possess this strength.

You sold me with the book cover!

This is as advertised a rediscovered notebook charting the construction of the iconic Empire State Building. For those old timers who want to reminisce about the good old days in construction why not relive it with the best. For the younger generation involved with construction or just fascinated by it, enjoy the choreography of constructing a floor a day on what was to be the world's tallest. Yes, put your Gant Charts, CAD Drawings and the modern electronics aside and peer through the construction notes. What a wonderful discovery! Enjoy!

Excellent reprint of the construction log for the Empire State Building

This is a reprint of the typed notes of the progress of building the Empire State Building. It brings to life the excitement of the construction process of the world's tallest building which was constructed in a record amount of time which remains unsurpassed to this day. The amount of orgnanization which was required to accomplish this feat is truly daunting and this book takes the reader into it. I highly recommnend this for both architects and those involved in the construction trades.

Essential for travel planning

Combines parts of the Lonely Planet guides for Russia (and I assume China and Mongolia) into a one-source book. Great focus on many different paths for a trans-Russia itinerary. If you are seriously considering making the trip, this is the book to buy!!

Summer guide only

A lot of stuff they write about is closed in winter and they just don't provide information at all about winter travel in some places making the guide frustrating sometimes.
They also don't always list the names of things in the native language (Russian, Mongolian, Chinese so when you are looking for something on a sign it is impossible to find or figure out.
It is nice that it is digital though so I can just have it on my phone and I did find some good restaurants (when open) using the guide just don't use it as your travel bible.
I got the trans-Siberian handbook by Bryn Thomas and Anna Kaminski and liked that they include native language names and the time difference from Moscow for every town (very helpful on the train). Although there winter info is a little off also.

A really useful book.

I have a DSLR camera and although I love taking photos with it, I realised that they could be so much better, which is why I downloaded this book.

It is quite simply a gem! The author starts by explaining what DSRL cameras are, and then goes on to discusses what type of photographer you want to be, and the type of images you want to capture.

From there the world of the DSLR camera unfolds, he gives plenty of excellent advice on how to use it and make your photos look as visually stunning as possible. He then goes on to explain some of the tricks of the trade, and discusses the increased revival in the popularity of black and white, and sepia, photography.

Included also are tips on maintenance of your camera.

In the conclusion, it was nice to see a good selection of photos for different types of photography, macro, landscapes, portrait, nature etc.
Basically I am really happy that I downloaded this book and am enjoying ‘playing’ with my camera.

Highly Recommended!

I have recently purchased a Nikon D600 and bought the corresponding "dummies" book, which about matches my photography expertise. So, now I know how to use my new camera....right? Nope. Now I need education on how to take photographs with my fancy new toy so that they look better than my iPhone snapshots. Enter Dwayne's book. Since there are a ton of reviews on this book you can pretty much figure out that the content is excellent.

First of all, this is a great book in any form--hard copy or ebook. However, as far as I can tell, there are a bunch of great paper books out there on DSLR photography. When I downloaded the Kindle sample and read through it, I knew that the ebook format was the way to go.

Dwayne has indicated that he plans on improving and updating the ebook contents, which all buyers will be able to download as they become available. This is a refreshing change to the "quick scan, make a buck and forget" mentality that the big publishers follow. I will try to update my review as this new content becomes available.

Finally, the price. Dwayne has evidently not subscribed to the overpriced ebook mentality that has been the source of thousands of complaints on Amazon. Compared to the phyiscal version, he is charging about half. Obviously, Dwayne wants to sell many books reasonably rather than try to gouge us buyers. Again, very refreshing.

I am looking forward to improving my nonexistent skills over the years using Dwayne's book as my teacher. No matter which version you buy, you will do well. However, I strongly suggest you go for the ebook.

No sir, I don't like it.

I didn't find this book (I got it on Kindle) to be very well written or organized at all. I was able to pick a couple tips out of it but I had to wade through a lot of fluff in order to get it. I wouldn't have minded the fluff if it was all in one place but it was spread through out. I was looking for a good combination of details about the relationship between the complexities of a camera and specific examples and I didn't find that here. I ended up getting this instead and liked it a lot better: The Beginner's Photography Guide
